Harper the Hobbit

Tonight at dinner, Matt told Harper that she could be an extra in the movie The Hobbit (check the hair in the pictures).  Harper had no idea what that meant.  She did like the attention, though who doesn't in our family.
She paused for a minute and then said, "Does that mean you like me more that Abby?"

What?
What is going on in that little lady's head!

We laughed, told her we loved everyone, and then took a few pictures of just her.  She hammed it up in true Harper fashion.

Who's in trouble?

Oh Abby, girl you give me a run for my patience sometimes.

Abby got into trouble and had to go to her room for a time out.  I can't remember how it started, but it had something to do with not taking food off of her plate and placing (throwing) it on the table.  It ended with very sassy words out of her mouth and a trip up to her bed room to think about her behavior.

The behavior did not end, so she got to spend the better part of an hour in her room.  Mostly it was for my sanity.

She saw the errors in her ways (the screaming) and presented me with this loving sorry note at the end of her room incarceration.

Abby, you never fail to surprise me.

Abby's Ears

My very precocious 6 year old wanted to get her ears pierced.  Matt and I had her save up 20 dollars from her allowance and from chores that she did around the house to pay for the piercing.
On an allowance of $3.00 a week, she was a long way away from her goal.  But Abby set her mind to making it happen so she started doing housework to make up the rest of the money.  She did some pretty nasty chores, for a dollar each, including cleaning the man-room (eww), taking out the diaper trash (double eww) and putting away the dishes and the groceries.

This Saturday is the day she made it.  On Sunday we went on a "big girl" trip, just me, Harper and Abby to get Abby's ears pierced.
She did not know what was coming. I was holding her hand during the piercing so I didn't take a picture, however her face was awesome.  Shock, sadness, anger, excitement.  She cried, but it was short lived.

A young girl about eleven years old stopped to watch Abby get her ears pierced.  After the girl saw Abby's face, the girl turned to her dad and said:  "I'm never going to do that."  Her dad thanked me.

Way to go Abby, you made it.

The last day of school

We made it.  It is the last day of school.

The kids were so excited to jump off the bus and start summer.  I was so excited for them.  I even took the day off of work to meet them when they got off the bus.  My friend had cookies, which was almost better than vacation itself.  Almost.

It was just a few short months ago that this school year started.

The day did come full circle when Harper asked me when she was going to get to ride the bus.

Harper: Next year, I will ride the bus, right Mommy?
Me: No Harper, when you are five, you will get to ride the bus.
Harper: Okay Mommy, I will be five next year.  I will ride the bus.
Me: Harper you are going to be four.
Harper: No, I will be five.  I will ride the bus.
Me: How about a cookie?

That girl wants to ride the bus.

My Summer Garden

The ways my garden is not like my kids.
1. My garden is quiet.
2. My garden does not hate to have tomatoes, zuchini, squash or cucumbers around.
3. My garden does not sass me.
4. My garden does not run away from when I am trying to help them brush their teeth (or other related cleaning items).

The way my garden is like my kids:

1. My garden is growing every day, doing amazing things that I want to see.
2. My garden gets out of control and needs a little help getting back into shape.
3. I love my garden.

As I post pictures of my growing kids that I love, here is my garden that I love growing.
